The process for transferring a domain is relatively simple. If you’re trying to transfer an existing domain to Aeneas, you’ll need to initiate a transfer request as described below.
- When you create an account with Aeneas, you can tell us during the sign-up process whether you want to register a new domain or transfer an existing one.
- Aeneas will request the domain from the administrative contact person listed on the domain registration. To see who your administrative contact person is, you can visit http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp to do a “whois” search on the domain.
- Make sure your current registrar does not have your domain “locked.”
- As a security precaution, we suggest that you contact your administrative contact to let them know you’re switching providers. If they haven’t been informed of the switch, they may ignore the transfer request to protect your domain from being transferred without your knowledge. In some cases we will need an authorization code to make the switch. Your administrative contact can retrieve this from your current registrar.
- Once the request is made by Aeneas, the administrative contact will release it. The transfer can take anywhere from 3-7 business days to go through.
NOTE: Your domain is a key component to the function of your website and any domain based e-mail services you may have (ex. username@yourdomain.com). Be sure that your website and e-mail accounts are established properly in advance of your domain transfer and that Aeneas has been informed of any web and mail server hosting it will need to point your domain to. This will avoid any e-mail or website downtime after a switch.
Aeneas takes our responsibility to safeguard your domain seriously, and we will do all we can to make a transition seamless.
